Same-Sex Marriage Ruling in New Jersey

Same-sex marriage continues to be an uphill battle for the LGBT community. Last month, Superior Court Judge Mary Jacobson ruled that gay marriage must be allowed in New Jersey. However, Gov. Chris Christie’s administration quickly announced they would appeal the ruling because state law can’t violate the state constitution.

New Jersey has civil unions for gay couple, just not marriages, which are legal in 13 states.

On October 4th, gay rights advocates asked a New Jersey judge to implement the order, allowing same-sex marriages this month. I believe the judge should remove the ban immediately. Even Vice President Biden recently said, “gay marriage is the issue of our day.”

Lets hope the Christie administration drops their appeal and allow the New Jersey LGBT community to enjoy the same marriage rights as heterosexual couples.
